Warsaw 1984

Fascinated by the urban spirit, watercolor painter and architect Tytus Brzozowski often depicts the silhouettes of buildings and people in colorful scenes, oscillating between reality and fantasy, with the city of Warsaw being one of his favorite motifs. Despite an omnipresent surrealism, his paintings reference the true history of Polish cities.

The artist sometimes also uses artistic means other than watercolor: for example, he created the designs for five murals in Warsaw, created a large-format illustrated book Citynauts, and painted the destroyed cityscape of Warsaw for the film After the Apocalypse.

Brzozowski’s paintings have been exhibited during the Polish Cultural Season in Ningbo, China, and at the renowned ARTLIFE festival in Moscow. They are also used by the Polish Tourism Organization to promote Poland at international fairs. In addition to his artistic activities, he regularly gives lectures on Warsaw’s history and architecture.

I am seeking for a key to the true character of a place or of a local community. Quite often, I paint buildings that no longer exist or in surroundings untypical for them – he explained.
