Kazimierz Mikulski

Krakow 1918 – Krakow 1998

From 1938, Mikulski studied painting under P. Dadlez and K. Sichulski at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. During the occupation, he continued his studies with F. Pautsch at the Kunstgewerbeschule (School of Applied Arts). In the immediate post-war period, he studied acting and directing at the Dramatic Studio of the Old Theater in Kraków, and in 1945, he simultaneously achieved success at the Young Film Workshop. As a member of the Kraków Group, he participated in modern art exhibitions in Kraków and Warsaw.

His activities encompassed painting, drawing, stage design, and acting (he performed in Tadeusz Kantor’s underground theater and later in his Cricot 2 theater), as well as writing poetry. The artist’s paintings have been described as surreal, metaphorical, and dreamlike. His favorite motifs include beautiful women, animals, and flowers, which he reinterprets as symbolic.
