Adam Patrzyk studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and graduated in 1993 under Prof. Stefan Gierowski. He eschews figurative subjects, instead focusing on interiors, house facades, libraries, and shop windows. His paintings are dark and charged with tension, without depicting dramatic scenes.
Due to the extremely impasto texture of his works, the pictorial surfaces appear like a sculptural material engraved and chiseled by a goldsmith. The interiors depicted are far from being ordinary rooms, but rather gloomy cells or stage sets, imbued with emptiness, reminiscents of Van Gogh’s interiors. Patrzyk can be counted among the contemporary heirs of the Expressionist movement, yet his Expressionism is individualized: introspective, intimate, and concentrated.
