The painter Jacek Yerka has received international awards for his work and has had exhibitions in Warsaw, Düsseldorf, Los Angeles, Paris, and London.
He studied fine art and graphic arts prior to becoming a full-time artist in 1980. During his studies, Yerka resisted the constant pressure from his professors to adopt the less realistic, low-detail painting techniques that characterized so much of contemporary art. Instead, he stubbornly continued to work in the classically meticulous, Flemish-inspired style he still favors today. Eventually, his teachers relented and recognized their student as a brilliant (although troubling) talent.
