Szancenbach studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow from 1945 to 1948 under W. Weiss, E. Eibisch, and L. Gradowski, graduating with a diploma in 1952. After successful years as a freelance artist, numerous international exhibitions, and teaching positions, he was appointed professor and, in 1987, rector of the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts.
He primarily painted genre scenes, landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, but also worked in monumental painting, graphic design, and animation. In his landscape paintings, committed to colorism, the artist succeeded in capturing a sense of weightlessness and joy, reminiscent of a refreshing continuation of French Impressionism.
His works, which are characterized by joie de vivre, brightness, and vibrancy, can be seen in all major museums in Poland, as well as in Moscow and Florence. He participated in over 400 group exhibitions in Poland, Europe, and Japan, and had approximately 50 solo exhibitions in Poland, Great Britain, Austria, Sweden, and Germany. In 1996, the ABC Gallery in Poznań dedicated a retrospective to him as part of its Masters of Contemporary Polish Painting series.
