Katarzyna Karpowicz

Kraków 1985

The daughter of art professor and painter Sławomir Karpowicz and painter Anna Karpowicz-Westner, she began her studies at the Faculty of Painting of the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts in 2005 under Professors Grzegorz Bednarski and Leszek Misiak. She graduated with honors in 2010. After receiving numerous art prizes and successes in art competitions, Karpowicz was awarded a scholarship from the Grazella Foundation Anna Maria Siemieńska for outstanding young artists in 2019.

In 2020, on the occasion of an exhibition of works by the artist in which she addresses a recent operation, Polish art critic Ewa Ogłoza wrote:

I am captivated by Katarzyna Karpowicz’s paintings, by the artist’s sensibility towards life and art – characterized by gratitude, kindness, humility, seriousness, attentiveness, and tenderness towards the world, people, and culture. Karpowicz loves painting, literature, and film; for her, this is the meaning of life. She observes and paints herself, seeking solace and hope in art, and by presenting herself, projecting her own fears, hopes, and dreams, she offers comfort to others in similar situations.

Her works are in the collection of the Gdansk Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw, and in private collections both in Poland and abroad.
